The Hoops Window caught up with 6’7″ Toledo native Nigel Hayes on Tuesday evening for his thoughts on what he’ll bring at the next level, where his recruitment currently stands and more. Our Q & A with Hayes, the No. 44 ranked 2013 prospect according to ESPN, follows:
What would you say you are concentrating on improving in your game during the AAU season?
“My Outside game as far as jump shooting, mid range, and perimeter.”
What position do you see yourself playing day 1 on campus?
“Well if I were to stay the same height as now, probably a 3.”
Is the 3 spot your position of choice?
“Yeah. I see myself at that spot more than others.”
What is it like playing sometimes 7 to 8 games in a weekend for aau?
“Tiring, we have 8 players on our team and I’m usually guarding the 6’9” centers and we play against great competition, so having 7 or 8 can become very tiring.”
Any thoughts on playing football in college, if so when do you think you will decide on which sport?
“I don’t have plans to play football in college but I play now because football gives you added benefits that help you on the basketball courts such as strength and toughness. But my heart is with basketball.”
What schools are you hearing from? Which have extended an offer?
“Ive heard from Cincinnati, Xavier, Central Michigan which all have offered. Other schools have sent out questionnaires.”
Do you have any official or un-official visits scheduled for the summer?
“As far as now no I don’t have any visits scheduled”
How do you prepare for a game? What is your pre-game routine?
“Try to talk to as many people as I can and be as funny as possible, so when the game starts im relaxed instead of uptight and nervous”
